What is a Domain Name and can Thomas Web Design get one for me?

When you type in a website address, you usually enter the website's domain name (www.thomaswebdesign.com). We can obtain a domain name for your company and the cost is $10 per year.

What is a Web Host and are fees required?

Once your domain name has been purchased you need to have a place to upload your website files. A web host company will store your uploaded files and this will allow your site to be viewed on the Internet. What are Key Words?

They are hidden (single word description) options that can help direct internet search engines to your site.

What are Meta Tags?

They are hidden (1 or 2 sentence) descriptions that describe your business.

What is a Search Engine?

Search Engines are the database where your website will be indexed on the internet. It takes about two weeks to a month for the crawler to come around and index your site. This is due to the high number of websites on the internet today and you have to wait in line for the crawler to pick you up and put your site in the index.

Does my Website have to be Indexed before I can view it on the Internet?

No. All you have to do is type in the domain name (www.yourcompany.com) in the address bar at the top of the screen and you will be able to view your website.

Now that my website is indexed, will key word searches place my website into the first page of search engine results?

Web design key words are only helpful in natural search engine results and cannot guarantee page placement. Usually there are several pages of websites returned in search results and your website may appear in any one of the pages if it has been indexed into that search engines database.

What if I have minor changes or adjustments needed for my website?

Minor adjustments to the website are included at no charge for up to 30 days after the website has been uploaded to the internet. Minor changes include changing text, adding or changing photos, etc. Any major additional requests not included in the initial quote will require additional discussion and possibly incur and additional fee.
